Contract Law: Privity of contract

August 12, 2023

Privity of contract is a legal principle which establishes that the rights and obligations created by a contract are generally only enforceable by the parties who are directly involved in the contract. As a contract creates a legal relationship exclusively between the parties who entered into the contract, third parties who are not part of the contract usually cannot enforce its terms. However, this is not an absolute rule and is subject to exceptions.
